KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for a second consecutive session on Thursday, falling 13.85 points, or 0.54%, to close at 2,531.55 points.
The Sensitive Index, which measures the performance of blue-chip companies, also went down by 0.54%.
The benchmark index opened higher but remained under pressure for most of the session. It reached an intraday high of around 2,546.1 points before falling to a low of around 2,525.21 points. Some late buying, however, helped erase some losses.
The decline came amid broad-based selling, with 200 stocks declining and 67 closing higher. Eleven stocks remained unchanged during the session. Total turnover slightly fell to Rs 4 billion. A total of 10.58 million units were traded through 44,198 transactions on Thursday.
Among individual stocks, Liberty Energy Company posted the biggest gain of the session, hitting a 15% positive circuit. Dolti Power Company Ltd and Upper Lohorekhola Hydropower Company followed with gains of 8.22% and 7.02%, respectively. On the other hand, Sindhu Bikash Bank posted the biggest loss, falling 14.98%. Prabhu Select Fund and Prabhu Smart Fund followed with losses of 10.22% and 9.3%, respectively.
Likewise, Liberty Energy Company topped the turnover chart with Rs 454.88 million. Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd and NRN Infrastructure & Development Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 211.26 million and Rs 191.15 million, respectively.
All trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which closed 1.14% lower. Non-life Insurance and Finance sub-indices followed with losses of 0.78% and 0.66%, respectively.
