Pumpin seeds worth Rs 500,000 seized near Nepal-India border

KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal on Saturday seized 19 sacks containing around 600 kilograms of pumpkin seeds in Jhapa district.

The seeds were seized near the Mechi River in Turkheni of Mechinagar Municipality-6.

The APF Nepal’s border security and customs surveillance unit in Kakarbhitta seized the seeds while they were being illegally transported to India via a farm road.

People involved in the illegal transport fled the scene after spotting the patrol team, according to a statement issued by the APF Nepal.

According to APF Nepal, the seized pumpkin seeds are estimated to be worth around Rs 500,000 and are being processed for handover to the Kakarbhitta Customs Office.
