KATHMANDU: There is still the risk of flooding in the Bhotekoshi River as a lake formed after the Lende Khola was blocked has not yet fully drained, experts say.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the Lende Khola is believed to have been blocked about 10 kilometers upstream from the Miteri Bridge on the Tibetan side.
“Flooding risks in the downstream areas along the rivers, therefore, will remain until the lake formed at the site of the blockage is fully drained,” Binod Parajuli, a flood expert at the division, said.
He urged people to stay away from the riverbanks and remain in safe locations until further notice.
“According to information received from the Chinese side, the lake formed at the site where the river was blocked has not yet fully drained. Therefore, the risk of flood remains,” Parajuli said.
He added that the division was continuously monitoring water levels and developments in the upstream areas.
