Nepse slips 5.3 points; turnover improves to Rs 4.1 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index extended its losing streak for a third straight session on Tuesday, falling 5.30 points to close at 2,594.27.

The benchmark index remained under pressure for most of the trading session after briefly climbing above the psychological support level of 2,600 points in the morning. It lost momentum after hitting an intraday high of 2,608.47 points and ultimately closed the session 0.2% lower.

The market remained weak during the session, with 187 stocks declining. Likewise, 78 gained and 12 remained unchanged. Total turnover, however, improved to Rs 4.1 million with 10.04 million units traded through 46,589 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Sarvottam Paints Ltd continued its winning run with the biggest gain of 14.99%. Crest Micro Life Insurance Ltd and Nadep Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd were next with gains of 14.95% and 6%, respectively. On the other hand, Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd posted the highest loss of 10.07%. 7% Nabil Debenture 2089 and Citizen Sahuliyat Yojana were next with losses of 5.08% and 4.88%, respectively.

Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 900.79 million, accounting for nearly one-fourth of the total. Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd and Solu Hydropower Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 177.16 million and Rs 137.60 million, respectively.

Except for Development Bank and Non-life Insurance, which posted nominal gains, all trading groups ended the session in the red. The Finance sub-index posted the largest loss of 0.91%. Next were Hotels & Tourism and the Trading sub-indices with losses of 0.71% and 0.57%, respectively.
