NC issues whip to vote against Bagmati Chief Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly has issued a whip directing its lawmakers to vote against the motion of confidence of Chief Minister Kiran Thapa.

Chief Minister Thapa is scheduled to take a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Monday.

In the whip issued by Pukar Maharjan, chief whip of the NC parliamentary party in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, lawmakers have been directed to be present at the provincial assembly meeting and vote against the motion of confidence tabled by Chief Minister Thapa.

The NC issued the whip in accordance with Article 168 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, and Rule 143 of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Rules, 2017.

Thapa, who represents CPN-UML, was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bagmati on Thursday. He leads a coalition government of the UML, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

UML formed the new coalition after the NC announced its exit from the NC-UML coalition in provincial governments. UML subsequently withdrew its support from the Indra Bahadur Baniya-led provincial government in Bagmati.

After losing the majority in the provincial assembly, Baniya tendered his resignation on August 17.
