KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have reached a two-point agreement with CPN (Masal) to form a government in Lumbini Province.
The two-point agreement was finalized following a discussion among UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN (Masal) General Secretary Mohan Bikram Singh on Wednesday.
The first point of the agreement states that the three parties will cooperate to form a government in Lumbini Province and carry out development work. Similarly, the second point states that the parties will collaborate on movements that support national sovereignty, the constitution, and the republic, while opposing regression.
CPN (Masal) has one member in the Lumbini Province Assembly.
A majority of 42 is needed to form a government in the 83-member provincial assembly. The UML and NCP, which have formed an alliance to form governments in all provinces, have a combined strength of 42.
UML has 29 members in the provincial assembly, while NCP has 13, including the Speaker. With Masal joining the alliance, the UML-NCP alliance has reached the magic number of 43.
