KATHMANDU: Family drama ‘Gaunthali’ has grossed nearly Rs 140 million at the domestic box office.
According to the Nepal Film Development Board, the film has collected Rs 136.44 million with 494,915 tickets sold as of Sunday.
Directed by Dr Kapil Rijal, ‘Gaunthali’ was released nationwide on July 17.
The film has surpassed Laalibazaar, which has earned just over Rs 90 million domestically, to become the top grosser of the year 2083 BS.
Gaunthali tells the story of a rural girl forced into child marriage and deprived of her right to education.
Simran Khadka plays the lead role, alongside Arun Chhetri, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire and Loonibha Tuladhar, among others.
