KATHMANDU: A 35-year-old man attempted self-immolation in Sarlahi on Friday.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker from Sarlahi-4, Amresh Kumar Singh, said Bibek Mandal from Godaita Municipality-10 of Sarlahi set himself on fire on Friday afternoon.

The incident comes a day after Ganesh Nepali of Mugu set himself on fire at Tripureshwar, Kathmandu on Thursday. Nepal succumbed to burn injuries at the Bir Hospital on Friday morning.

Lawmaker Singh said he had notified Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Minister for Home Affairs Sudan Gurung and RSP President Rabi Lamichhane about the incident.

In a social media post, Singh said he had requested the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the party president to ensure free medical treatment for him. “A helicopter was dispatched immediately after I informed the Prime Minister and arrangements have also been made for his treatment at no cost,” Singh wrote on his Facebook page.
