KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Monday extended the remand of CPN-UML Vice President and former finance minister, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, by three days for further investigation.
Paudel was presented before the court by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation as his initial seven-day remand expired on Monday.
A division bench of Special Court Judges Narayan Prasad Paudel, Hemanta Rawal and Umesh Koirala granted the extension.
Paudel was arrested on June 22 from a hotel in Surkhet while he was attending a party program. He was produced before the court the following day, which permitted authorities to keep him in custody for investigation for seven days.
He is currently under investigation over suspicious share transactions and alleged accumulation of illicit assets. Investigators are also probing claims that he pressured local industrialists in Rupandehi to divest high-value shares to controversial businessperson Deepak Bhatta at significantly reduced prices.
