CWC League 2 tri-series with Oman and UAE postponed

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has postponed the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) League 2 tri-series with Oman and UAE, scheduled to begin at the TU International Cricket Stadium on March 10, until further notice.

Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said the decision was taken considering the current situation in the Middle East. “In light of the current situation in the Middle East, the CWC League 2 matches scheduled to begin on March 10 in Kathmandu have been postponed until further notice,” CAN said.

CAN added that revised dates for the series would be announced in the coming days after further consultations.

The postponement comes after major Gulf carriers suspended commercial flight operations, making it difficult for the cricket boards of the United Arab Emirates and Oman to send their players to Kathmandu for the matches.

The 20-member preliminary squad of Nepal is currently undergoing closed-camp training for the tri-series.

Nepal sit seventh out of eight teams in the CWC League 2 standings with 12 points from 20 matches. The UAE are at the bottom with 10 points, while Oman are fourth with 24 points.
