KATHMANDU: Ireland and Scotland secured the final two berths in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after winning their respective Super Six stage matches in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Ireland finished second in the standings with six points, ahead of Scotland and the Netherlands, who had secured qualification. All these teams finished the Super Six stage with six points each.
Bangladesh emerged as champions of the Global Qualifier, completing the campaign unbeaten.
In their decisive match, Ireland defeated Thailand by 62 runs. Batting first, Ireland posted 121 for the loss of eight. wickets. In reply, Thailand were bowled out for 59 in 16.1 overs.
In another match, Bangladesh defeated the already-qualified Netherlands by seven wickets. The Netherlands scored 102 for six after batting first, but Bangladesh chased down the target with three wickets in hand in 16.4 overs.
In the final match of the day, Scotland beat the United States by 41 runs. Scotland added 178 for the loss of eight wickets and then restricted the US to 137 in 19 overs.
Ireland, Scotland, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands will join Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies at the Women’s T20 World Cup, to be hosted by England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.
The Global Qualifier also featured hosts Nepal, along with Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, and Namibia, all of whom failed to progress beyond the group stage.
