KATHMANDU: Capital expenditure of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) remained at a dismal 12.39% in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
Speaking at the 18th Municipal Assembly of KMC on Friday, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol said that of the total budget outlay of Rs 25.76 billion for fiscal year 2025/26, Rs 4.64 billion had been spent as of December 24. Recurrent expenditure stood at 28.44%, while capital expenditure reached only 12.39%, she added.
Of the total spending, 14.01% was allocated to infrastructure development, 15.15% to economic development, 16.22% to social development, and 12.06% to governance and interrelated sectors, Dangol said. “The highest share of spending—45.99%—went to administrative expenses,” she added.
Dangol also said KMC has been consistently planning and implementing projects to meet basic development needs, including roads, sewerage, bridges, construction and maintenance, waste management, health, and education.
KMC’s public spending mirrors the federal government’s low spending capacity, as federal capital expenditure stands at 9.25%.
