KATHMANDU: A total of 122 political parties are registered with the Election Commission (EC).
According to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, seven new parties were registered with the EC since the date for the House of Representatives elections was announced.
“However, since the registration of seven was scrapped, the number of parties remains the same, 133,” Bhattarai said at a press conference on Sunday.
Similarly, Bhattarai said that 28 parties are currently in the process of registration. “For those parties, the process of requesting documents and verifying details as per the law is underway,” he added.
President Ram Chandra Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives on September 12 on the recommendation of interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. On the same day, Karki announced to hold the new elections on March 5.
Sunday is the final day for party registration for the elections.
