Gagan Kumar Thapa
KATHMANDU: As former Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers begin signing a petition demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that elections will be held on March 5 and that all efforts should now focus on making them successful.
“The NC will not only participate in the March 5 elections but will also ensure their success. Let there be no doubt about this,” Thapa wrote in a social media post on Monday morning.
He added that a new Parliament will emerge from the upcoming elections. “This is the only way to bring the constitution back on the right track—there is no confusion about it,” he said.
Thapa added that the party had clearly communicated its decision during the all-party meeting attended by interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. “This is also the decision of the party’s Central Performance Committee,” he wrote.
He also clarified that the ongoing confusion within the party does not concern the elections at all.
“The general convention must be held before the elections, because only the policy and leadership that emerge from that convention will make the NC capable of contesting the polls—that is our firm stance,” he said.
“The current discussions and confusion are only about holding the convention, not about the March 5 elections.”
