GORKHA: The bodies of two Italian climbers who had gone missing for five days on Panbari Himal in Gorkha have been found.

According to DSP Raj Kumar Shrestha, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Gorkha, the bodies of Stefano Farinato (67) and Alessandro Gaputo (37) were found buried under snow.

The bodies have been airlifted to Samagaun by helicopter.

Three Italian climbers and a Nepali support staff had gone missing last Wednesday while descending from the mountain. Farinato and Gaputo went missing after being caught in a severe snowstorm while retreating following their unsuccessful summit attempt.

Another Italian climber, Walter Perolino (65) was rescued safely by helicopter on Sunday, police say.

Their Nepali support staff — Pemba Renji Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, and Pasang Tamang — were also rescued the same day and taken to Kathmandu for treatment, according to police.
