KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala held a separate discussion with leaders close to him ahead of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Friday morning.
Koirala met with Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, and Deputy General Secretaries Jeevan Pariyar and Badri Pandey at his liaison office in Bishalnagar.
According to one participant, the meeting focused on ensuring stability within the party, resolving the ongoing deadlock, and finalizing the schedule for the party’s regular general convention.
Earlier, during Thursday’s CWC meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka refused to allow General Secretary Thapa to present the general convention schedule. This prompted General Secretary Thapa to boycott the meeting.
Sources said that if today’s meeting also fails to reach a conclusion, Thapa may again boycott it. Alternatively, he shekharparticipate to express his position and present the proposed schedule himself.
Thapa has prepared a proposal to hold a special general convention of the Nepali Congress on December 13-15. .
Earlier this month, 54% of the general convention representatives submitted a petition demanding the special convention.
General Secretaries Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma have both been insisting that the special general convention should be convened before the March 5 parliamentary elections.
