KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) General Convention Organizing Committee’s Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has warned that failure to hold elections could push the country toward chaos.
Addressing a tea reception organized in Kathmandu on Saturday to mark Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals, Dahal called for unity among all nationalist, democratic and progressive forces to safeguard the constitution and democracy. “We are passing through a very complex phase. The most inclusive and democratic option now is the upcoming election scheduled for March 5,” he said.
Taking a dig at CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, Dahal said those who had previously dissolved Parliament are now advocating for its restoration.
Dahal said that no revolution can institutionalize its achievements unless it can distinguish between friend and foe. He urged Gen Z youth to identify their allies and adversaries, saying, “Even we were once labeled terrorists.”
The former Prime Minister added that those fighting for the rights of the oppressed have historically been branded as threats. “Today, similar labels are being used again. We must remain alert to such tendencies,” he said.
Acknowledging that the constitution had slightly derailed, he emphasized the need for amendments through the next parliament. “We are ready to meet the people’s expectations,” he added.
