Narayanghat–Muglin road closed indefinitely after fresh landslides in Tuinkhola

KATHMANDU: A massive landslide in the Tuinkhola area has completely blocked traffic along the Narayanghat–Muglin road.

According to Krishna Prasad Acharya, Information Officer at the Division Road Division, Bharatpur, the landslide that occurred at around 4:55 pm was larger than the one that occurred last Friday. He said clearing the debris could take until Wednesday.

“We have begun removing debris from Tuesday itself. But it has to stop after dark. Clearing will resume from early Wednesday morning,” Acharya said.

The landslide has left thousands of people heading to different parts of the country stranded on both sides of the Tuinkhola area.

The Narayanghat–Muglin road is one of Nepal’s busiest highways and a vital road corridor linking Kathmandu with the rest of Nepal. Landslides are a recurring hazard along this corridor, particularly during the monsoon season, as the steep hillsides are highly prone to collapse.
