New Baneshwar area under curfew amid Gen Z protests

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has imposed a curfew in and around the New Baneshwar area to control the crowd of Gen Z protesters.

The curfew was enforced after the youth protesters became aggressive and entered a restricted area, according to the local administration of Kathmandu.

The demonstration, organized to protest government corruption and the social media ban, escalated as protesters clashed with police.

The curfew, issued by Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal under Section 6 of the Local Administration Act, is in effect from 12:30 pm to 10:00 pm on Monday.

The curfew covers areas from New Baneshwar intersection west to Bijuli Bazaar Bridge via Everest Hotel; east to Tinkune Intersection via Minbhawan; north to Ratna Rajya School via Eyeplex Mall; and south to Shankhapul Bridge.

The curfew order also covers areas surrounding the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President, Singha Durbar and Narayanhiti Museum.
