KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has said that correcting the existing practice of project planning has become a major challenge for the government.
Speaking at a program organized by the Former Planners’ Forum Nepal in Lalitpur on Thursday, Paudel said that efforts to reform planning practices by prioritizing projects that deliver tangible results have faced significant hurdles. He added that even enforcing the provision that the federal government will not implement projects costing less than Rs 30 million has become a challenge in the budget-making process.
Paudel also emphasized the need for legal reforms to create a conducive investment climate to attract the expected level of investment and mobilize domestic capital.
He also added that foreign aid and concessional loans should be mobilized based on development needs. “Nepal cannot move forward relying solely on grants. Concessional loans received for development should be utilized properly in line with global contexts and circumstances,” he added.
Also speaking on the occasion, planning experts said it is important to advance Nepal’s journey toward prosperity in a way that inspires confidence in the international community.
