Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon acquires AIMS membership

KATHMANDU: The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon has acquired membership of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

With this, the Everest Marathon has become the fifth long-distance running event in the country to join AIMS, a global organization for running events, after the Nepalgunj Marathon, Pokhara International Marathon, Kathmandu Marathon and Nepalgunj Night Run.

TS Thakuri, the AIMS ambassador for Nepal, has expressed his delight in welcoming the Everest Marathon on board the AIMS. “The growing number of AIMS members in Nepal shows that the running culture is expanding in Nepal,” he said. “From Nepalgunj Marathon in the lowlands of Tarai to the Everest Marathon at the foot of the world’s highest peak, international interest will increase and so will the number of foreign visitors.”

The Everest Marathon, which starts from the Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters), is the highest running event in the world. It is organized every year on May 29 to commemorate the first ascent of the world’s tallest peak.
