KATHMANDU: Pro-monarchy groups demanding the restoration of the monarchy are organizing a demonstration in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The Joint People’s Movement for Restoration of Monarchy, led by Panchayati-era leader Navaraj Subedi, has organized the demonstration. The protest has received backing of the pro-monarchy Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RPP Nepal, among other parties and political groups.
Coordinator Subedi, RPP Chairperson Rajendra Lingden and RPP Nepal Chairperson Kamal Thapa, among others, have reached the event venue.
Processions from seven parts of Kathmandu Valley have converged in Ratna Park.
The movement has been launched with agendas such as the restoration of the monarchy, the re-establishment of Nepal as a Hindu nation and the abolition of federalism.
Police have tightened security to avoid the repeat of the March 28 incident in Tinkune which claimed two lives.
