KATHMANDU: Bijay Prakash Sapkota has been elected as the Chairperson of All Nepal National Free Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNFSU-R) – the student wing of CPN (Maoist Center).
Sapkota, who had the backing of party headquarters, defeated Hemant Rai by 71 votes. Rai had the support of Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma. While Sapkota received 686 votes, Rai could muster only 615.
Maoist Center sources say Sapkota had the support of Deputy General Secretary Shakti Basnet and outgoing ANNFSU-R Chairperson Pancha Singh.
Likewise, Atal Acharya, Madan Dhakal, Biraj Thapa and Dipa Jaisi as Vice Chairpersons (Open); Mamata Adhikari as Vice Chairperson (Women); Sandeep Pun as Vice Chairperson (Indigenous Nationality); Krishna Bahadur Sunar as Vice Chairperson (Dalit), Abhimanyu Yadav as Vice Chairperson (Madheshi); and Umesh Kandel as Vice Chairperson (Khas Arya).
Similarly, Roshan Thapa Magar has been elected as general secretary, while Bipin Pokharel, Gajendra Yadav, Nirmala Gautam, Bhagwan Bastola, Resham Adhikari, Prakash Adhikari and Ramchandra Bhatta have been elected as Deputy General Secretary of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, respectively. Likewise, Niroj Shrestha and Jatil Karki have been elected Deputy General Secretary of Valley Special and University, respectively. Pokharel is close to party headquarters, while Shrestha had the backing of Maoist Center’s Senior Vice Chairperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha. The other seven had the support of Maoist Center Deputy General Secretary Sharma.
Similarly, Prem Jaishi, Birendra GC, Shishir Basyal and Samjhana Rai have been elected as Secretary (Open); Tirsana Ale Magar and Samakriti Pun as Secretary (Women); Artist Moktan as Secretary (Indigenous Nationality); Asha Uparkoti as Secretary (Dalit); Amar Mandal as Secretary (Madheshi); Jitendra Bhandari Secretary (Khas/Arya); and Yuncho Hang Mabo as Secretary (Martyr Family).
