Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan to play for Karnali Yaks in NPL

KATHMANDU: Nepal Premier League (NPL) side Karnali Yaks has announced the signing of star Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan.

“Karnali Yaks is bringing the fierce energy of ‘Gabbar’ himself, Shikhar Dhawan, to the Nepal Premier League! With his dynamic style and experience, he’s ready to shake things up. Brace yourselves because Gabbar has arrived!” the Karnali Province- based NPL franchise said in a social media post on Thursday morning.

Dhawan said in a video posted on Karnali Yaks’s social media page that he was excited to play in the NPL for Karnali Yaks and meet Nepali people. He retired from international cricket in August.

The left-hand opening batsman has played scored 1,759 runs in 68 T20 matches for India with a strike rate of 126.36. He has played for Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Punjab franchises of IPL.

National team pacer Sompal Kami captains Karnali Yaks, while Gyanendra Malla is the head coach.

Karnali Yaks earlier signed Mohammad Hussain Talat of Pakistan, Babar Hayat of Hong Kong and Chadwick Walton of the West Indies.

NPL features eight teams. and will be played between November 30 and December 21.
