KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) has filled the vacant positions of office-bearers.
In the voting held on Tuesday during the first full meeting of the party’s central committee, Jayanti Rai was elected as the Vice-chairperson from the women’s category, while Dharmanath Sah secured the position from the Madhesi cluster. Rai was in competition with Ramkumari Jhakri, while Sah defeated Ram Chandra Jha.
According to the election committee, Gangalal Tuladhar, Bhanubhakta Joshi, Jagannath Khatiwada and Prakash Jwala have been elected as Vice-chairpersons from the open category. Except for Jwala and Joshi, all are aligned with the faction led by Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Likewise, Garima Shah, Rajendra Rai, Ram Kumar Bhattarai and Metmani Chaudhary have been elected as Deputy General Secretary. Baldev Chaudhary was elected as Secretary from the Indigenous Nationalities group, while Ganesh Bishwakarma secured the position from the Dalit group. Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Som Pandey, Chandra Bahadur Shahi, Sabitra Bhusal and Shrinath Baral were elected as Secretaries from the open category.
A total of 67 candidates competed for 17 positions. Rajendra Pandey was elected as the Senior Vice-chairperson unopposed on Tuesday after Ghanendra Basnet withdrew his candidacy.
The 10th General Convention of the party held in Kathmandu from June 30 to July 4 elected Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Ghanashyam Bhusal as the Chairperson, Senior Leader and General Secretary, respectively.
The selection of the remaining office-bearers was pending until now.
