KATHMANDU: Nepal has been selected as the host for the 7th SAFF Women’s Championship.
According to the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), the biennial regional women’s football championship of the SAARC nations will be held at Dhashrath Stadium in Kathmandu from October 17 to 30.
Bangladesh and Bhutan had also expressed their interest in hosting the tournament. However, the federation picked Nepal as the host.
This will be the third time that Nepal is hosting the SAFF Women’s Championship. Nepal earlier hosted the event in 2019 and 2022.
Bangladesh is the defending champions of the SAFF Women’s Championship as it defeated hosts Nepal 3-1 in the final played at Dashrath Stadium in 2022.
Nepal has reached the final of the event five out of six times but has failed at the last hurdle on all occasions. It failed to make it to the final only in 2016.
India has won the tournament five times, while Bangladesh was victorious once.
