KATHMANDU: The Tamakoshi River in Dolakha district, which was blocked by a landslide for a few hours, has started flowing.

The river was blocked after landslide debris fell into the river near Deurali in Bigu Rural Municipality-1 – about 2.5 kilometers north of the dam of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project in Lamabagar.

“Now that the river has started flowing, there is no further risk,” Mem Bahadur Tamang, the chairperson of Ward-1 of Bigu Rural Municipality, told Himal Press over the phone. “The river, which was blocked at around 11 am, started flowing at around 3 pm.”

According to Tamang, the landslide has cut off two villages in north-western Dolakha. He said the only road to Lapchi and Lunnang villages has been washed away.

“The landslide left around 60 people, including some foreign tourists, stranded. We are making preparations to evacuate them using alternative routes,” he added.
