KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its losses for a third straight session, losing 15.62 points to end trading at 1,958.75 points on Monday. This is the lowest since December 11 last year when the stock market closed at 1,948.57 points.
The benchmark Nepse index lost more than 13 points within 15 minutes of trading on Monday. The index reached an intraday low of 1953.43 before making some recovery toward the closing moment to eventually end the session 0.79% lower.
Except for the Development Bank sub-index, which posted a nominal growth of 0.23 points, all other trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 1.96%. Next were Microfinance and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices with losses of 1.81% and 1.08%, respectively.
Citizens Life Insurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 319.83 million worth of shares traded. Nepal Finance Ltd and Pokhara Finance Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 108.16 million and Rs 98.01 million, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 2.89 billion changed hands on the bourse through 48,709 transactions on Monday.
