KATHMANDU: The market extended its losing streak to a fourth straight session on Wednesday as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index declined by 3.43 points to end trading at 2,006.78 points.
Although the benchmark index posted gains in initial trading, reaching an all-time high of 2,017.21 points, it erased all the gains as the day progressed and ended the session 0.17% lower.
Share prices of 132 companies fell on the day, while 103 advanced and 10 remained unchanged. Surya Jyoti Life Insurance Company Ltd registered the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 258.05 million traded. Next were Sarbottam Cement Ltd and Gurkhas Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 126.78 million and Rs 117.75 million, respectively.
Only three trading groups posted gains on the day, while 10 others ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Microfinance sub-index, which was up by 1.65%, while the Manufacturing & Processing group registered the biggest loss of 1.74%.
Shares worth Rs 2.53 billion were traded on the bourse through 52,065 transactions on Wednesday.
