KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak for the third consecutive day, dropping 17.23 points to close trading at 2,070.84 points on Wednesday.

With this, the benchmark index has lost 71.03 points in the past three trading sessions after a seven-day gaining streak during which it added 193.3 points.

On the day, share prices of 159 companies declined, while 83 advanced, and five remained unchanged. The share prices of four companies hit the positive circuit of 10%. Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd was the most-traded securities on the bourse, with Rs 196.66 million worth of shares of the cement producer changing hands. Next on the list were Shivam Cement and Suryajyoti Life Insurance Company Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 186.60 million and Rs 167.08 million, respectively.

Among the trading groups, only two sub-indices posted nominal gains. The Trading sub-index posted the highest loss of 2.32%, followed by the Manufacturing & Processing and Hotels & Tourism indices, which were down by 1.85% and 1.55%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 5.17 billion were traded on the bourse on Wednesday. The daily turnover is significantly lower compared to the previous session when shares worth Rs 6.98 billion changed hands on the bourse.
