Nepse extends losses into fifth session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended losses for the fifth consecutive session, shedding 7.29 points to close at 1,851.23 points on Sunday – the first trading day of the week.

The market has been on a bearish run since the benchmark Nepse index posted a gain of 47.75 points on November 26. The index has now lost 56.72 points during this period.

Except for the Microfinance sub-index, which showed a marginal growth of 2.19 points, all sub-indices recorded losses on the day. The Mutual Fund index experienced the maximum loss, down by 1.25%. Finance and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices were the next in line, losing 0.55% and 0.54%, respectively.

On the day, the share prices of 94 companies rose, while 136 companies fell, and 10 remained unchanged. Sonapur Oil and Minerals Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 69.53 million traded. Following closely were Hathaway Investment Nepal Ltd and Citizen Life Insurances Company Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 31.56 million and Rs 27.71 million, respectively.

The daily turnover fell below the one-billion-rupee mark for the first time in seven sessions, with shares worth Rs 938.54 million traded on the bourse on Sunday.
