Nepal defeats Bahrain by 7 wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Bahrain by seven wickets in its second match of the ACC Men’s U19 Premier Cu 2023 in Malaysia on Sunday.

Batting first, Bahrain posted 77 runs in losing all wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Nepal achieved the target losing three wickets in 11.4 overs.

Bahrain made a poor start losing four wickets with just 17 runs on the board. Muhammed Basil Abdul Hakkim gave some respectability to Bahrain winning scoring 34 off 77 balls. Other Bahrain batters failed to reach double digits; five were out on duck.

Dipesh Kandel took six wickets for Nepal giving just four runs in his 9.5-over spell which included eight maidens. Durgesh Gupta took four wickets.

Although Nepal was reduced to 10 runs for the loss of three wickets in just the third over, opener Arujun Kumal and captain Dev Khanal took Nepal home. Kumal scored an unbeaten 32 runs from 31 balls, and Khanal remained unbeaten at 32 runs from 27 balls.

Anas Obaid Syed took all three wickets for Bahrain.

Nepal defeated Iran by 270 runs in its first game of the series on Thursday. It leads the table with four points from two games. Saudi Arabia also has four points from two games but is behind Nepal’s net run rate.

Nepal will play its next game against Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
