KATHMANDU: Two earthquakes in less than 30 minutes have jolted Bajhang district in far-western Nepal.
The first earthquake, measuring ML 5.3 and with an epicenter at Talkot, struck the remote mountainous district at around 2:40 pm on Tuesday. Shortly thereafter, at 3:06 pm, a more powerful ML 6.3 earthquake shook the district headquarters, Chainpur, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.
As a result of these earthquakes, several houses have been damaged. “Numerous houses and school buildings have sustained damage due to the earthquakes. Transportation has been disrupted due to landslides occurring at multiple locations along the Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Highway,” reported a local radio station, Saipal FM, on its Facebook page.
