Nepse tanks 42.14 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index plummeted by 42.14 points to close the first trading day of the week at 1,964.91 points on Sunday.

The market opened for trading at 2,009.99 points and began to decline immediately after trading commenced. Although the market made some recovery attempts one hour into the trading session, it continued to experience losses and eventually ended the day 2.09% lower. Share prices of only 11 companies advanced on the day, while share prices of 213 companies declined, and three remained unchanged.

NIC Asia Bank Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 275.47 million of the Class ‘A’ commercial bank changing hands. Next on the list were Reliance Nepal Life Insurance and Everest Bank Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 245.29 million and Rs 125.45 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended Sunday’s session in red, with the maximum loss coming from Trading sub-index, which was down by 3.33%. Following closely were the Finance Hotels & Tourism sub-indices, which fell by 3.3% and 3.29%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 2.92 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 72,477 transactions.
