KATHMANDU: Tragedy struck Nepalgunj as six individuals from two families lost their lives in a devastating car accident on Saturday night in Sravasti district in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The Mahindra Bolero jeep, bearing the registration UP 47 W 1217, hit a tree and overturned while trying to save a stray cattle on the road near Ikauna, according to Indian news outlet India Posts.
The victims have been identified as Baibhav Gupta (35), along with his wife Deepika (32), their son Dallu (3), and their daughter Shreeya (six months). Nilansh Gupta (22) and his sister Suniti (20) also lost their lives in the tragic event.
According to India Posts, Ikauna police cut the door of the vehicle, got everyone out and took them to the local CHC. There the doctors declared Nilansh, Suniti, woman, and the two children dead, while Baibhav was referred to Medical College Bahraich where doctors declared him dead as well, it added.
The car was en route from Balrampur to Nepalgunj. DSP Santosh Singh Rathour of District Police Office, Banke, said.
Santosh Gupta, the father of Nilansh and Suniti, revealed that the siblings were returning after visiting their maternal home in India. Similarly, Baibhav was bringing his wife and children from Deepika’s maternal residence.
The car’s driver, Ajay Mishra, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Rathour mentioned that preparations are underway to repatriate the bodies back to Nepal.
