Three killed as truck rams into cyclists, pedestrian in Kapilvastu

KATHMANDU: Three people were killed after a truck hit two bicycles and a pedestrian along the Bahadurganj–Taulihawa section of the Postal at Gaidahawa in Maharajgunj Municipality-2, Kapilvastu, on Wednesday.

According to the Nepal Police, the truck traveling from Nepalgunj to Biratnagar struck the two bicycles and the pedestrian. All three victims, who sustained critical injuries, died while undergoing treatment at the Kapilvastu District Hospital in Taulihawa.

The deceased have been identified as Ananda Kashyap (12) of Gaidahawa in Maharajgunj-2; Bijay Kumar Gupta (45/46) of Ganauriya in Maharajgunj-3 and Bhollar (75) of Maharajgunj-3.

The truck also hit a parked motorcycle on the roadside.

Police have taken the driver of the truck, Rohit Rai (42) of Biratnagar-4, Morang, into custody for investigation.
