KATHMANDU: Rescue workers have begun a search for the car that plunged into the Sunkoshi River in Sindhuli district on Monday.
According to the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, the incident occurred along the Mid-Hills Highway in Navalpur, Fikkal Rural Municipality–2. “The car was heading toward Kathmandu from Khotang when a passenger bus heading to Okhaldhunga from Kathmandu hit it,” the APF Nepal said in a statement. “The car lost balance due to the impact and veered some 30 meters off the road and plunged into the river.”
A search team from APF Nepal’s base in Khurkot, including divers, has been deployed for the search, according to APF Nepal Joint Spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa.
A separate team from the Nepal Police has also joined the search operation.
Police say all three occupants of the car have also gone missing. They have been identified as Dil Kumar Lama of Sindhupalchok and Ganesh Thapa of Sindhuli. The identity of one occupant has yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, police have taken the bus driver into custody for further investigation.
