KATHMANDU: Ideological differences have been seen between CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and Senior Leader Jhalanath Khanal.
The meeting of the Secretariat Committee of the Unified Socialist, which was held in Kathmandu on July 14-21, concluded that ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ – an ideology first proposed by late Madan Bhandari in the early 1990s – is still relevant. The party has decided to develop the ideology as a roadmap to achieve socialist revolution.
CPN-UML, from which the Unified Socialist split, has also been adopting ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ as its main ideology.
However, senior leader Khanal said in the Secretariat Committee meeting that ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ has already lost its relevance. Khanal, who spoke non-stop for seven hours in the meeting, said it cannot be the party’s ideological roadmap.
Khanal has been a strong opponent of ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ since his days in the UML. He has always described the ideology as an alternative ideology.
Unified Socialist started the discourse on ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ with the entry of Ghanashyam Bhusal as the party’s general secretary.
Bhusal, who chose to stay in the UML when the Unified Socialist was formed, was nominated as the general secretary of the Unified Socialist on Marcy 19.
