Govt doling out Rs 178 million to children of civil servants

KATHMANDU: The government is distributing Rs 178.18 million in the name of ‘educational incentives’ to the offspring of civil servants.

According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, children of civil servants studying at the Bachelor’s level are eligible for the dole out.

Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, a joint secretary at the ministry, stated that the funds will be distributed among 687 Bachelor’s level students. “A committee under the ministry is overseeing the process. It has already determined the amount of money to be distributed to each beneficiary,” Bhattarai, who is also the spokesperson for the ministry, told Himal Press. “The committee is collecting bank account numbers, PAN numbers, and other details from the beneficiary students.”

Bhattarai further stated that the ministry will begin depositing money into the beneficiaries’ accounts starting on Tuesday. “The beneficiaries must collect the money by July 9,” he added.

The government’s computerized accounting system goes offline during the last week of the fiscal year, which ends on July 15.

Distribution on the basis of faculty

  • Rs 71.7 million to 144 students of Medicine
  • Rs 56.97 million to 229 students of Engineering
  • Rs 14.28 million to 119 students of Management
  • Rs 9.82 million to 52 students of Information Technology
  • Rs 7.76 million to 36 students of Agricultural Sciences
  • Rs 7.64 million to 45 students of Law
  • Rs 6.48 million to 29 students of Health Sciences
  • Rs 1.46 million to 11 students of Humanities
  • Rs 1.12 million to 12 people of Science
  • Rs 500,000 to five students of Forestry
  • Rs 300,000 to a student of Ayurveda
  • Rs 241,060 to four students of Education
