KATHMANDU: Islam followers across the country celebrated Eid al-Adha on Thursday.

The festival holds great importance for Muslims around the world, as it marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. It is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival begins with a special congregational prayer held in mosques and open prayer grounds. Muslims congregated at Nepali Jame Masjid and Kashmiri Masjid on Thursday and offered prayers to god.

As part of Eid al-Adha celebrations, Muslims also performed the ritual of Qurbani, or animal sacrifice. As per the reitual, the meat from the sacrificed animal is generally divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for friends and neighbors, and one-third for the less fortunate and those in need.

Eid al-Adha is a time of family gatherings, feasting, and merriment. Relatives and friends come together to share festive meals, exchange gifts, and engage in joyful conversations.
