KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reassured farmers that there would be no shortage of chemical fertilizers this year as the country currently has a stock of over 71,000 tons.
Speaking at the House of Representatives on Friday, Dahal informed that Nepal has imported a total of 351,000 tons of chemical fertilizers since mid-July last year. “The import of chemical fertilizers has significantly improved compared to the previous year. We still have approximately 71,000 tons in stock,” stated Dahal.
He further said that a shipment of 45,000 tons of DAP (Diammonium phosphate) would be arriving in the country later this month. “This shipment will ensure that there will be an adequate supply of chemical fertilizers for paddy transplantation this year,” Dahal assured.
Dahal also highlighted that although an initial allocation of Rs 15 billion had been made for fertilizer procurement, the government has additionally pledged Rs 8 billion to ensure sufficient availability. “This demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting farmers,” he emphasized.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the government has effectively mobilized province governments and local units to facilitate the distribution of chemical fertilizers to farmers.
