KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning run for a ninth straight session, gaining 52.26 points to close at 2,094.33 points on Sunday.
The market opened for trading at 2,045.06 points. Despite taking a dip initially when it dropped to an intra-day low of 2,038.7 points, the benchmark index made a recovery and eventually closed 2.56% higher.
Except for Banking, which went down by 0.29%, all the trading groups posted gains, with the highest gain coming from the Life Insurance sub-index which was up by 6.38%. Following close were the Hotels & Tourism and ‘Others’ sub-indices which appreciated by 6.15% and 6%, respectively.
Shivam Cement was the most sought-after stock of the day as shares worth Rs 366.5 million of the cement producer were traded on the day. Next on the list were IGI Prudential Insurance Ltd and Soaltee Hotel Ltd with turnovers of Rs 169.36 million and Rs 166.6 million, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 4.87 billion changed hands on the first trading day of the week through 70,647 transactions. Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.06 trillion.
