KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Poudel observed the traditional ‘Bhoto Jatra’ festival in Jawalakhel on Thursday.
Officials of the Guthi Sansthan showed the Bhoto, or the bejeweled vest, from the Red Machhidnranath chariot. On the occasion, President Poudel worshipped Rato Machhindranath as well as Goddess Kumari.
Also present on the occasion were Vice President Ram Sahayaprasad Yadav, Prime Minister Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shretha, among others. Thousands of people were also present on the occasion to observe the festival.
The ‘Bhoto Jatra’ festival is organized four days after the Rato Machhindranath chariot is pulled to Jawalakhel from Lagankhel. It is a part of the Rato Machhindranath Chariot Festival – one of the longest chariot festivals in Nepal.
The chariot procession, which began on April 24, concluded with the ‘Bhoto Jatra’ festival.
