LUMBINI: Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary of Nepali Congress (NC) has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province.
Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed Chaudhary to the post as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal on Thursday.
Chaudhary has the support of 51 province assembly members of eight political parties and one independent assembly member.
Lumbini Province Assembly has 87 members.
The post was lying vacant after former Chief Minister Lila Giri failed to get a vote of confidence in the province assembly on Monday. His government had fallen into the minority after coalition partners, including Maoist Center, switched camps and withdrew their support.
NC and Maoist Center have agreed to lead the province government by turns.
