KATHMANDU: The government has transferred AIG Sahkul Thapa of Nepal Police. Thapa, who was also the election commander of the police or election cell coordinator, has been given the responsibility of the National Police Training Academy.
DIG Basant Kunwar will now take over the election command of Nepal Police. With the November 20 elections approaching, the police headquarters has been involved in the promotion and transfer of police.
A central election cell led by Thapa was formed for the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections to be held on November 20. But he was transferred before the work started.
DIG Kunwar, who came to take over the command, was promoted to number one when he was promoted. Now the Kunwar-led cell will study the sensitivity of the polling stations.
It is said that the election commander has changed after the proposal of Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and thus Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba showed interest. The government has also changed the Home Secretary recently.
