Karnali Chief Minister Sharma wins confidence vote

SURKHET: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Rajkumar Sharma, has passed the floor test.

The sixth meeting of the first session of the Karnali Province Assembly gave a confidence vote to Sharma on Friday. Twenty-five members of the 40-member province assembly gave their confidence vote to Sharma.

Nepali Congress is the largest party in the province assembly with 14 members, followed by Maoist Center with 13, UML with 10, Rastriya Prajatanta Party and CPN (Unified Socialist) with one each. The assembly also has one independent assembly member.

Sharma was elected to the province assembly from the Rukum West-1(B) constituency.

The CPN (Maoist Center) leader has the support of the ruling coalition formed at the center. The two largest parties of the coalition – CPN-UML and Maoist Center – have agreed to lead the province government on a rotating basis.

This means Sharma will resign after two and half years to pave the way for UML leader Yam Lal Kandel to become the province assembly’s fourth chief minister.
