UML prepares to make Devraj Ghimire Speaker of the House of Representatives

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML is preparing to make Devraj Ghimire its candidate for the election of Speaker.

Ghimire was elected to the House of Representatives from Jhapa-2 constituency. He is the Province 1 In-charge of UML and is said to be close to party Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

This is Ghimire’s first stint in the House of Representatives. He previously served as a member of the National Assembly in 1999.

Sources say UML had also the names of shortlisted deputy general secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, secretary Chhabilal Bishwakarma and Bidya Bhattarai for the post.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat is holding the election for the Speaker on Thursday.
