KATHMANDU: A large number of cannon balls have been unearthed in Palpa district.
According to District Police Office Palpa, the cannon balls were dug at a building construction at Golakhana in Tansen Municipality-4 near the district headquarters Tansen.
Historian Nirmal Shrestha said the site could have been used as an arsenal by one of the 24 municipalities of western Nepal that existed before the unification of Nepal.
So far, 300 cannon balls have been recovered from the site.
The land belongs to Nepal Army. The army is preparing to build a guesthouse on the land plot.
Chief District Officer of Palpa, Jagannath Nepal, said personnel of Nepal Army’s The Famous Mahendra Dal Battalion have been deployed for the management of cannon balls.
