KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to recall Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Aman Lal Modi, from the government.
A meeting of the party’s office-bearers held on Sunday made the decision.
The party took the decision to create space for a leader from the Janamat Party to join the government. The Janamat Party has already decided to send Anita Devi Sah to the government.
Since there already are 25 members in the cabinet, Dahal cannot appoint a new minister without recalling one of the existing members.
The Janamat Party had left the government four months ago, citing dissatisfaction over the sharing of ministerial portfolios.
The CPN (Maoist Center) currently holds five ministries in the coalition government: home affairs; communication and information technology; energy, water resources, and irrigation; federal affairs and general administration; as well as culture, tourism, and civil aviation.
Maoist Center sources say the party had considered removing either Modi or Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati. Ultimately, Dahal chose to replace Modi, as removing Kirati, who is gaining recognition for his works, could disseminate a negative message.
