KATHMANDU: A new bird species has been recorded in the Upper Mustang region of the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Ornithologist Shankar Tiwari spotted the bird at 8:49 am on May 7, according to the Nepal Bird Record Committee.

The new bird species has been identified as the White-cheeked Starling.

According to the Nepalese Ornithological Union, the bird is native to China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam, while it is recorded as a migratory species in Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand.

With this new addition, the number of bird species recorded in Nepal has reached 895.
